Unnamed sources have stated that a mosque is contemplated being discussed to be built on Marco Island.
Given the demand and diversity that Marco Island is known for, it is natural, the source has noted, for a mosque to be built on the island.
The idea is for the mosque to resemble the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (aka Sultan Ahmet Mosque, Blue Mosque) in Istanbul, Turkey. But much smaller of course. A important feature though would be to have six spiraling minarets towering 200 feet tall over Marco Island, enabling the five-times a day call to prayers (both in English and Arabic) to be easily heard.
The exact location on the island has not been considered, though a prime site would be the northwest corner of Bald Eagle Drive and San Marco Road.
More if hear more.
