Requesting the National Guard

After you read the below email exchange ask yourself this question: did this councilperson contact the Governor's office when the syndicate threatened to "shoot" those that disagreed with them, or when the syndicate used racial slurs, or when a citizen's house was vandalized for writing an email ... to this very same councilperson?

Ps. The very last line of this email is farcical.

RE: Marco Island Sewer System - Robert Popoff 239-825-3278
From:Iglehart, JonTo: Shoaf, KathyCc: Gaskin, Carla A.Palmer, Mollie

Kathy,

I spoke with Councilman Popoff.  The issue is the political climate on Marco as a result of the septic tank replacement program.  He received a threatening e-mail last night after a 4/3 vote in favor of continuing the program. Councilman Tucker's mailbox was destroyed last night.  Both voted in favor.  Other incidents of similar behavior directed against the council members in favor of the project have occurred.  C. Popoff contacted the Governor's office for assistance in dealing with the increasingly threatening environment.  A local police investigation reviewed the e-mail and did not pursue charges.  He is very concerned that the incidences are increasing in both number and severity and is asking for State assistance.

C. Popoff indicated that he had had a conversation with Dane Eagle of the Governor's office a few weeks back, and was awaiting for assistance on how to deal with these issues.  He had called because of the recent escalation.

An election for several Council members will occur in January, and a group intent on stopping the project has candidates on the ballot.  It is currently a single issue election.

Governor's office just called to let us know that Robert Popoff with the Marco Island City Council called their office  and said that Marco Island is having problems with their sewer system and they need immediate help.

Can you please call Mr. Popoff and see if there is any immediate assistance we can render?  Please advise status.  Thank you.

  • Mario,

Again, I apologize for emailing you with my response to your blog, and, perhaps, it is better that I email this instead of blogging it. I am simply too lazy to jump through all the hoops in order to be able to blog you directly on your blog site.

Perhaps I misunderstand (or simply do not understand) the message imparted by your most recent blog, but my initial reaction is that dredging up this old issue with Councilor Popoff is beneath your normal standard. As you know, I have complimented you on several of your “blogs” in terms of bringing a collegiate and historical perspective to issues surrounding Marco Island, but I feel that this particular blog is inappropriate and wrong.

You may attach this to your blog site or, if you would prefer explaining to me the purpose of this commentary, I will withdraw my response.

  • hello mr. kiester
thank you for your input and i always welcome them.

you are correct - the topic is old news - but the fact that this councilperson went to such extraordinary efforts ON SELECT LAW ENFORCEMENT is 1)news to me; 2)news to 100% of the local residents that i asked on this matter (not many admittedly). hence i can only conclude that it is news to many others.

and its not like i just decided to put this up after having sat on it for 2 years. i just got it.

it often seems that there are those bent on re-living the past. they are called historians. and the further the past is from the present, the more arcane these folks appear. but in today's times, where the iron triangle serves only their own interests to the detriment of the ordinary citizen and hence obfuscate, lie, cheat and outright violate the laws of this country - as is the case with how i came across the noted email - historians seem more out of touch, seem more to be at odds with those that just want to "put it behind us" and hence any nascent revelation seems as if driven by rancor or vengeance. it is not - bringing to light something just revealed about substantive events of the past is a virtue. the drive is for documenting the past, highlighting the contradictions, exposing the bias, bigotry and crimes in the hope that those with the vested power act responsibly by first seeking the prosecution of those that violated the laws and by not repeating the very same contradictions, bias, bigotry and crimes. not that i have any expectations as to the latter on marco.

if the posting is a mistake as you suggest, then i made a mistake - but i will not shy away from it by taking it down. i did that once (and only once) already - oddly enough by capitulating to a request by that very same councilperson. i have regretted it since then - and that mistake i wont make twice.

thank you once again. greatly and sincerely appreciate your suggestion.

  • Good for you, Dr. Mario, for not succumbing to the "Can't we all just get along" syndrome suggested by Chuck Keister. Why are those in authority so afraid of the truth. If they have such thin skins they should be in a monastery.

One Person with Morals ...

To: City Council                                               Monday, September 15, 2008

Reference: Electric Municipalization Committee    (Attached e-mails.)

After reading several e-mails between the City Staff, City Council members and an ex-City Councilor, I have some serious concerns that members of the City Staff, City Council and the ex-City Councilor, are perpetrating a fraud on this committee and this community.

The attached e-mails clearly show that the purpose to study the feasibility of taking over the electric company (LCEC) is to leverage LCEC to:

  1. Reduce the costs of “under grounding”
  2. Eliminate the 5% franchise fee at LCEC’s expense.
  3. Get preferential treatment on rates.
  4. Other concessions from LCEC

If the purpose of the committee is to be a “hammer” for the City to bring LCEC to their knees to meet these objectives it is unprofessional, to say the least, if not illegal .

I personally do not want to be party to anything that has the appearance of impropriety and I hereby resign from the committee.

Bill McMullan

Electric Study Committee Member

Drinking Asbestos

Yet another gift from the syndicate. By the way, you CAN NOT boil asbestos out of water.

Hi Dee Ann,

I was wondering if you could send me an example of someone's weekly outlook.  I think I have a good feel for it, I would just like to get an idea for what kind of format you are expecting.  As far as what is coming in the next week for us in the SD, I don't see too much.  Of course, in my newness, I am probably overlooking alot.   What I have follows.  The directors and I have been working on having the administrators for each department post updates every week.  Most of the supervisors today are in a training so i have somewhat limited access to the information i need.

1.  The was a major potable water line break in Marco Island.  It appears that the line was asbestos Concrete.  We have just ordered them to do an asbestos test.  As the limits for asbestos in solution are very high, we do not expect a violation there.  They are under a boil order.

1a. as a side note, there may be more collection system violations coming to light in the near future.  The original complainant is one Micheal Weinacht who lives in an affected area, and is very vocal.  At this point he is good for the department as he is very admirous of the attention we have given his plight, and is casting us in saintly light.  There is an opportunity here for some very good pr for the department.

Better "Twilight Zone" than Paranoiac Hate

Boy, aren't we glad that these people won the election ...

Subject: Hydrogen Sulfide-Marco Island, Please Do Not be Duped

Dear Mr. Iglehart:  It is no coincidence that the issue (or non-issue) of Hydrogen Sulfide has been brought to your attention by the same Marco Island residents that were mentioned to you very recently.  It is of the utmost importance that you and your office understand that all care and caution must be excercised in any tests, actions and any conlcusions, as this group of citizens (that brought you in on this issue) is ruthless and will stop at nothing to achieve their goal.  That goal being stoppage of the STRP for the benefit of Marco Island and the waters of the State of Florida.  Be advised that these same citizens care nothing about the medical effects of Hydrogen Sulfide.  They care only how they can use it (per the enclosed) and your office to stop the STRP and achieve their goal.

Please be aware that it has already happened where these citizens have taken actions that are illegal and immoral to achieve their goals.  It is fully comprehensible and, in all probability, very likely that members of this group have actually tainted the very waters and the locale where the FDEP performed testing with a powdered form of Hydrogen Sulfide.  In addition, it is very possible that additives were placed to create the effect in some of the pictures that were provided to your office.  Objectivity is the goal for this and all testing.

As I have the utmost respect for your office and it's goals, I do not wish to see your office become the victim of these people that will stop at nothing to stop the installation of sewers.  It is my STRONG recommendation that your office send samplers to Marco Island, UNANNOUNCED, to test random areas of discharge to properly measure levels of Hydrogen Sulfide.  In this manner, neither the City nor it's residents can have any effect on the outcome of the tests.

My recommendation is made irrespective of the results of the previous tests you made, pass or fail.  I am aware that the statements made in this e-mail border on the verge of a "Twilight Zone" type of atmosphere, and yes, that is what we have here.  The STRP will be halted on Marco Island unless the State FDEP steps in and mandates otherwise.  And until that happens, crazy things like this (and the enclosed e-mail sent for your amusement) will continue to occur.

Thank you for your time and attention.  I hope you take my suggestion seriously as the situation here on Marco Island is very serious right now.

  • Ah, Ed Issler—so well educated that he invariably uses “it’s” (the contraction for it is or it has) for the possessive pronoun “its.” And he’s a whiz at chemistry, too—“powdered form of Hydrogen Sulfide.” In the real world, under normal pressures and temps, gases can’t exist as powders.

Recker in His Own Words

Editor's Note: By the way Recker, as you denigrate the citizens you purportedly represent, consider that it is impossible to "blaspheme" those like you, since to blaspheme means "expressing disrespect for God or for something sacred" - unless you and yours think of yourselves as God or something sacred. Oh by the way Recker, nice touch on how you want to "eviscerate" (surgical removal of an organ or the contents of an organ from a patient, or the act of removing the bowels or viscera) Roger Hall, Butch Neylon, Joe Batte (a lifelong public servant) and Dr. Guidry (a veteran). Nice, very nice.

George's email to me below speaks for itself!

I know your boss has been hearing things from various persons on Marco Island. But I am now an announced candidate for City Council down here who supports the STRP (septic tank replacement program) here on Marco. I think this issue should be controversial---- if the date were 1920 instead of 2007! But it seems I could use some 'support' from the DEP....maybe a statement that waste is better off in a treatment plant than in our backyards!!

Is there anyone you would advise me to speak with? I have been in contact with a friend/supporter, Lisa Douglass who works in City Hall on Marco as the Public Info Officer.

And, just for anyone's edification, I have attached my background and position paper which includes my position on the 'sewer' issue and which was given to the media!

Lastly, we just did lose our City Manager, Bill Moss, who was wisely chosen by Naples as their permanent replacement. He was 'run off' by the anti sewer lunatics here on Marco

Thanks!

George:

On Wednesday I'm meeting with my 'political advisors' who have been trying to get something from the DEP which states/requires the sewer hook ups on Marco Island. As I mentioned, the only 'announced' candidates at this point are four militant 'save the septic tank' lunatics who would completely stop the STRP (septic tank replacement program) in progress. About 64% of the residences are now on sewers. The present schedule would have it all completed by about 2012.

Could you give me the name of a good contact source at DEP to assist my colleagues? Or, would you have any suggestions? If DEP came out with a mandate/order, etc., saying it must be done or such, it would remove this sewer issue from the politics and essentially eviscerate the four who are running for office on this issue alone.

I can't believe in this day and age 'intelligent' adults would oppose hooking up to sewers but I guess unless they saw sewage floating in their own backyards they would rather maintain the status quo, no matter what the environmental/larger picture might look like.

My supporters tell me (I am still unannounced) that as soon as I announce, the first questions will be about my position on sewers, and they say the militant core who are against sewers WOULD only look at that one position/issue. We may be losing a great City Manager (Bill Moss) as a result of the militants who blaspheme everyone who does not agree with them.

Thanks.

  • The only thing I can say about Recker that the people who wanted this garbage in office got what they wanted a goverement that does not represent the people, looks down on the people and lines their pockets with power and gold. I rembember they said vote for us and your water bill won't go up, guess what it did and we also got the largest tax increase in Marco's history. Good job and its not over yet.

From the True, to the Inevitable, to the Absurd

Just up the road from Marco Island ...
..

(click on either image to enlarge)

So, just exactly what is the present governance of Marco Island and it's one-man handler's plan when it's water "treatment" plant get's shut down? Here is their plan ...

From the "you can't make this up department", the syndicate should seriously pursue what up to now has been verbal-only discussions about the city of Marco Island purchasing (with our money of course) a waste treatment plant so that when it's water "treatment" plant fails - because it will - then they can pump the effluent into the waste treatment plant. Better yet, hire QE trucks to cart the sewage to the waste treatment plant. Better yet, carry it to and bury it on Track-K.

Boy, these guys are sure smart.

On the Cost of Indifference

This blog does not normally link to outside videos except for those that are extraordinary. Reason being that its hard enough to focus local citizens on the environmental crimes committed by the present/past majority governance and their intellectual and moral corruption, that we don't want to distract them any further with global issues.

But this video is exceptional in that it buttresses a constant theme of this blog: decrying citizens that don't or only occasionally care, participate or otherwise investigate in what is left of their government, and the effects of such callous respect to their most precious obligation.

The salient line in the video being (other than the hysterically sanguine attacks on a certain country) is "We are too fat and complacent we don't even know it so maybe we deserve everything we get".

Warning - not politically correct language.

Enjoy.
